The art club of Nasr Boys School, conducted an Ikebana workshop on 7th November, 2019. Ikebana is the centuries old Japanese art of Floral arrangement. KO FU Degapudi Deepika conducted the workshop. She has been practicing since 2013 and is a certified instructor by the Ohara School of Ikebana. She was also chosen to showcase her art at the Ikebana world convention 2017, in Okinawa, Japan. She introduced the subject, through a brief history and the different thoughts associated with the different school of Ikebana. The boys learnt the concept of building an arrangement. The idea of Heaven _ Earth _ Man fascinated the boys. They learnt why the flowers, leaves etc have to always face up and not droop down in the arrangements. They learnt to appreciate nature starting from the arrangement base where “Kenzan” (bed of nails) is used instead of the more popular green foam base that florists use. She also demonstrated the different arrangements of Ikebana ; Rising, One Row, Radial and Hana Mai. The concept of Subject, Object, Secondary and Fillers became clear, once the boys did the arrangement themselves, guided by Ms. Deepika. They realized that they too could build something beautiful from dried leaves and twigs. The aim of the Ikebana workshop, was to bring the students closer to nature and enhance their creativity.
