Poetry puts emotions into words and is also one of the most valuable modes of learning the language.
The rhythm of the words, cadence of the poem, its inherent harmony make it an effective tool to express feelings, emotions and by reciting a poem aloud students can learn the flow of language, the play of words, phonics, syntax and develop an everlasting love for poetry.
Nasr Boys School, held an Intra Class Poetry Recitation Competition for the students of the Primary Section. Competitions at Nasr Boys require the participation of all students. A preliminary round was held, wherein all students from Class I to V participated. Students participated enthusiastically and the poems ranged from the classical to modern.
Poets such as RL Stevenson, Sarojini Naidu, Rabindranath Tagore, Ken Nesbitt, and even Shakespeare.
The finalists gave their best and the winners read from Shakespeare, Rabindranath Tagore. Class IV Ishan Reddy recited ‘Where the mind is without fear’ By Ravindra Nath Tagore with much aplomb, ‘The Quality of Mercy’ by Sarmad Ahmed and the ‘O Captain O Captain’ by Bilal Akbar, both from Class V, clinched the prize for their perfect diction, pronunciation, and confidence.
Principal Mir Hafeezuddin Ahmed appreciated the efforts of the students and gave away the prizes.
